National Data Management: The Australian National Data Service (ANDS)

The goal of the Australian National Data Service (ANDS) is to build an Australian Research Data Commons to allow sharing, discovery and re-use of Australian research data. This presentation will provide an overview of ANDS current activities include redeveloping our discovery portal, building capabilities in data policy and data management in research organisations, and working with partners to provide sustainable information infrastructure such as party identifiers for disambiguating researchers, Digital Object Identifiers for datasets, and web services for location information and vocabularies and classification schemes. Sally Goodenough Australian National Data Service (ANDS), Canberra 

Sally Goodenough has worked with the Australian National Data Service (Canberra) on metadata schema documentation, training and process development for 18 months. Earlier career projects included exploring the implications of e-health for statistical collections at AIHW, an ISO/IEC 11179 metadata registry project at Centrelink, and developing a corporate thesaurus at Medicare Australia.

DAMA (Data Management Association) is a not-for-profit, vendor independent association of technical and business professionals dedicated to advancing the concepts and practices for data resource management and enterprise information. The primary purpose of DAMA is to promote the understanding, development, and practice of managing data to support business strategies.  DAMA has chapters and members throughout the world.

DAMA has been in operation for over 20 years in Australia and there are active DAMA chapters in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Canberra. DAMA Sydney offers a regular speaker programme as well as regular meetings, seminars and workshops. It provides a forum for information management practitioners to network and exchange information and experiences.
